Cosmology … for Pedestrians

Seminar room 3, 15:00

Cosmology aims to understand the Universe as a whole, thereby probing both the origin and the potential end of "everything". I will describe the observations that led to the formation of the idea of a "Big Bang" and the current standard model of cosmology - the LCDM concordance model. Today, fluctuations in the Cosmic Microwave Background provide exquisite support for this theory. In the future, terminology such as "bi-metric gravity" and "B-mode polarization" might come to dominate research in cosmology.
