Status of the CMS Experiment

After almost 20 years of design, construction, assembly and preparations,
the Compact Muon Solenoid, CMS, started data taking with LHC beams
in Sept 2008. The main design features of the detector, the construction
and assembly will be reviewed. The commissioning and preparation for
beam and first physics will be discussed and next steps will be described.
