Pulsars and Fast Radio Bursts - two discovery stories and two examples of extreme physics

Two related discoveries in radio astronomy, made about 50 years apart, namely of Pulsars (pulsating radio sources) and of Fast Radio Bursts, will be described. Our current understanding of these objects and what the tell us about our universe will be outlined.
