Heavy quark physics and lattice QCD: exploring strong matter

Sinead Ryan (Trinity College Dublin)
Zoom DESY Zeuthen, 13.00

Heavy quark systems, containing charm or bottom quarks have played a critical role in developing our understanding of QCD and in tests of the Standard Model. Since the early 2000s, open and hidden heavy quark mesons have also provided a fertile hunting ground for new exotic states, many of which remain poorly understood by theory. I will discuss how lattice QCD can address the new challenges emerging in heavy quark spectroscopy, including studies at zero and finite temperature QCD. Some recent results will be presented and future prospects considered.
