Observation of Single Top Production at the Tevatron

Dominic Hirschbühl (Wuppertal)
DESY auditorium, 17:00h

This talk will present an important milestone of the Tevatron's physics program achieved in the beginning of 2009 with the simultaneous observation of electroweak single top quark production by the CDF and D0 collaborations. After selecting the candidate events, a huge and not precisely estimable background hides the small expected signal. In order to extract this small signal advanced multivariate methods are required.
I will describe the methods to determine the different backgrounds as well as the used multivariate methods to measure the single top quark production cross section.
