Astrophysics at the Terascale

Dieter Horns (Universität Hamburg)

In Astrophysics, whenever a new observational window has been opened, the results have changed our view of the Universe dramatically and sometimes in quite a surprising and unexpected way. Most recently, ground based observation of TeV photons has provided us with a completely newview to the very energetic Universe. The most sensitive and successful detection technique is the stereoscopic Cherenkovimaging of air showers. Current instruments like the H.E.S.S. and MAGIC experiments have discovered a diverse population of Gamma-ray sources, some of which do not have a counterpart at other wave lengths. I will present selected highlights and provide an outlook towards future ground based gamma-ray observatories.
